Keith Rodgers of the Groups Break Machine & Bon Rock is back with a new Album and the first single is entitled “Old School” featuring Hip Hop legend “T Ski Valley” & “Fast Break” from the movies “Beat Street” & “Wild Style”.
Keith’s Father “Stanley Rodgers” was discovered by “Frankie Lymon” and went on to sing in groups like the Revlons.
The “Townsmen” & “Don & Juan” who made the Doo Wop classic “What’s Your Name” he is still singing now with “Speedo” of the “Cadillacs” and Bill Witt’s “Paragons” . Keith’s little cousin rapper “Stack Bundles” has been called the greatest mixtape Mc of all time. His Cousin “Rosa Russ” was instrumental in the creation of the style“Acid Jazz“.
His cousin “DJ Battle” Runs One Sound & Entertainment and “That’s Good Radio“ in Atlanta. Keith had one of the first rap records to be released on “Tommy Boy” Records. He also fronted a 1980’s group called “Break Machine” whose single “Street Dance” was an international hit and one of the earliest mainstream breakthroughs for hip hop.
The record “Street Dance” sold millions of copies and has become the 86th best-selling single of all time according to a list released in 2004 by the Syndicat National de l'Edition Phonographique. “Street Dance” has been featured in 35 compilations and numerous movies and documentaries chronicling the early years of hip hop and break dancing. It is also credited with starting the “Smurf “movement in Europe. Keith Rodgers whose alter ego “Bon Rock” was a rapper and host of a rap radio show called “Bon Rock Live” on the New York City radio station WHBI 105.9FM.
He played along side Mr. Magic and the Juice Crew, DJ Marly Marl and The World famous Supreme Team. In The 1990s Keith was musical director for the Annual “Nubicity” Art Exhibition held at the“ National Black Theatre” on 125th Street in Harlem; while writing and producing the group “R” Time that was managed by the Wu Tang Clan.
Keith's first album “Bon Rock” the “B Boy” was digitally re-mastered and re-released in Europe on “Boogie Times” Records. He has also completed scoring the music for the independent film called "Drama" produced by Carl June Productions. Keith has just returned from tour in Europe as the opening act for the group “Star point” as well as singing lead with the group “Surface” on their hits “Happy” & “Closer than friends”.
Earlier this month he performed with T Ski Valley and Fast Break on the 30th anniversary of the TV Show “Dancing on Air”. Keith Rodgers is also featured in the weekly pod cast Funky Pearls feat “Bon Rock” vol 145 by DJ TAREK FROM PARIS. In 2012 Keith will be featured on two songs on the “Funkology” album by “William Kensington” other artists on the album are Warren “G“, Kool G Rap, Afrika Bambaata, Dilated Peoples, Melba Moore, "D" Train, Gwen Mcrae and Blaq Poet on Skeal Records.
